As the reality of food security comes to the forefronts of our understanding, we need to take action - not just for us, but for our children, and for the generations after.
Perhaps this started from the in-grained "make sure you finish all your food" mantra my parents used to drain into us, or annual shock at the amount of food we threw out when it comes to our quarterly pantry/fridge springclean (which can be a considerable amount when you have seven people in a house), as well as that of my curiosity to measure the amount of wasted raw, semi-processed, and finished food waste that I have in my food factory, my convictions about doing something about food waste has been something that has been churning in my system for a while.
In fact, for the past year, I had challenged two of my interns with the question about what can be done with the food waste in our factory and how we could reduce it (to which they had no good solution to). Just a few months back, I also had a conversation with a colleague about food waste, and he linked me up with a girl who was supposedly interested in solving this problem, but I haven't heard from her.
Today, After reading a Huffington Post article about the people who are doing something about it, I finally found the resolve to take some concrete action too - starting with educating myself a little more about the realities of food waste and the solutions that can be taken to it.
So here it is, a space committed to share what I've gleaned, and hopefully multiply into convicted calls to action to be more aware and responsible in the area of food and waste. Perhaps it's a "save the earth" blog, but more so, it's also about caring for the generations after us - that they too may be be fed.
Here's a good start to understand what this is all about:
